Clients often ask me to design a symbol which is very personal to the person being remembered; whether it is their favorite plant, or a copy of a piece of artwork they produced, the symbol is chosen because it meant something to the person.

This memorial was designed in conjunction with the client as a memorial to her son. Gwent Memorials encourages clients to suggest design ideas to make their family headstone unique.

Florence’s memorial is an 18” high monolith incorporating designs wanted by her parents. The shape and method of installation was in keeping with the country churchyard and the memorial was made from honed black granite with high-lighted letters which ensure longevity and low maintenance. The snowdrops are designed to remind
    us of winter.

    Brandon's memorial

The use of blue pear granite is a very apt memorial for a baby boy.The epitaph is in hand-engraved letters gilded with gold leaf and the sand-blast designs are hand-painted by our in-house artist. As a family firm Gwent Memorials encourages memorial design ideas from the bereaved which, in most cases, can be incorporated into a headstone at a very reasonable cost.

    Megan's memorial

Megan’s memorial illustrates design features on a standard polished black granite headstone; the star-shaped cut out, painted with silver enamel, encourages glances through to the woods beyond.

    kerb sets

Many local Councils are again allowing the installation of kerb sets in their cemeteries allowing an even greater choice for bereaved families. This is a striking example of a kerbed memorial in ruby red granite installed on a steep slope.

The diagram above shows one example of how how a memorial is secured. It is not to scale but acts purely as a illustration to show the principles of fixing a standard of headstone and base set to BS8415.

Before any memorial is erected, accurate reference will be made to the Code Of Working Practice and the chose ground anchor manufacturer’s specifications together with the site of the memorial, to ensure the correct components and core drill hole sizes are used.
